Christianity is the largest religion in the world, followed quickly afterward by Islam.
Both of these are Abrahamic religions, which includes Judaism as well. Each of them is historically rooted in the practices of the ancient Israelites and the worship of the God of Abraham, a primary figure in The Bible.
The practices of the Israelites, represented in the Hebrew Bible of Judaism and in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible, are foundational to those religions. They emerge from the culture and tradition of ancient desert tribes who communicated with God through rituals and practices used to induce revelation.
The history of each of these religions is vast, complicated, and often convoluted due to a variety of factors such as mistranslations, lost information, and ontological debate. Yet understanding the basis and the trajectory of these religions over time is important to consider as their story is intricately sewn into the very foundations of our current global civilization.
So what if I were to tell you that the ancient Israelites upon which these the religions are based were a cult of desert pagans following the wisdom of shamans who used plant-based concoctions in hallucinogenic rituals to induce altered states of consciousness; and that the very structure of those religions today are based on clandestine distortion of the original teachings in order to disconnect the populous from direct connection to the divine in order to establish and maintain sociopolitical control?
That is what the guest for this episode of Adventures Through The Mind, Reverend Danny Nemu, is here present a case for.
Danny has spent 17 years with the Daime ayahuasca community, including an 8 month period of cure in the Amazon battling a flesh-eating parasitic infection. He is a hypnotherapist, an activist, an author, and a speaker, specializing in Drugs in the Bible, Revelation and Politics in Science, and the connection between Linguistics, Neurobiology, Perception and Cognition. Fundamentally, he is interested in what we can know and how we can overcome impediments to knowledge. His books Science Revealed and Neuro-Apocalypse are out on Psychedelic Press.
He claims that there are drugs in the bible and that they were used as sacraments in religious rituals by the ancient Israelites, whose culture is the foundation all the Abrahamic religions of today. He takes us on a whirlwind adventure through the historical and pharmacological origins of the Old Testament and outlines the path it took from hallucinogenic rituals by desert shamans to the dry crackers and social repression of the modern era.
