Spiritual Healing, Internal Family Systems, and Emanuel Swedenborg
This episode of the podcast is going to explore an intersection of psychotherapy and spirituality.
Specifically, we are going to be exploring the intersection between Internal Family Systems, spiritual healing, and the work of 16c Christian philosopher and mystic Emanuel Swedenborg. Our guests are Bob Falconer, Chelsea Odhner, and Jonathan Rose.
Chelsea Odhner is the VP of Publishing for the Swedenborg Foundation and an IFS practitioner. Robert Falconer is an IFS therapist who has contributed significantly to the field through research and writing. Jonathan S. Rose is a scholar and translator of Swedenborg’s Neo-Latin works.
They’re on the show today to introduce both Internal Family Systems and Emmanuel Swedenborg and to discuss the intersection between these two systems of thinking and what they tell us about spiritual and personal healing. We also explore the mind as a place populated by many beings—some of which are various parts of ourselves, and some of which exist beyond ourselves: so-called unattached burdens, guides, angels, entities, spirits, demons, and so on.
Throughout the interview we discuss the nature of the mind, the nature of the self, our relationship with the divine, porosity of mind, heaven, hell, freedom, and salvation—as well as how to work with the various beings within and beyond us in ways that contribute to healing trauma and living a better life.
